Ms. Josie will be five tomorrow. How bittersweet and how amazing.
She had hopes that five meant she was big enough to get rid of the 24/7 medication pump and all that goes with it. We had told her when she got bigger she might outgrow the need for it. I had no idea she was thinking that 5 was a magic number and had to dash her hopes :-(.
She is SO excited to have her turn at a birthday. So far we have kept celebrations low key and light weight. She is just excited to have special events (trip to the zoo with Auntie Cris) and some presents. We are planning and planning her little ten minute school birthday party - last year we had to miss doing it.
She has NO IDEA that make a wish will come this week and officially grant her wish to meet Cinderella and Mickey Mouse. Mom is already exhausted, but I think this will be a blessing and a break our family sorely needs.
I believe if she were still in China her condition would be already be declining. Everything we have been able to do here for her has been just in time - just as her O2 sats started to decline, just as she was almost too old to have the best chance at truly healing both heart and lungs.
Here, things are very tough with her condition and her medical regime. But here she has a family and she is loved to pieces .. . and she has hope. That means a lot.
