There are certain developmental milestones all parents look for their little ones to achieve. So far JJ has -
Eaten Catfood (check) - well actually it was a nice crunchy cat treat. We reward the diabetic cat with treats when she gets her insulin shot, and one got left around and Mamma was not fast enough and . . . oh never mind. You know what happened next.
Opens doors - Yup. 20 months. Can barely reach the doorknob, but knows what they are for and how to use them. Wonderful. We keep the front door locked at all times.
Whines and points - in lieu of all the signs we are trying to teach her and the words we are working on JJ prefers pointing in the general direction of the object desired (usually food) and whining (eh eh eh eh eh eh eh mamamamamamamamamama). Definite milestone.
Actual signs used - Baby, more (the last she did ONCE and did it appropriately, but could see I thought it was great, so has refused to repeat it)
Words - Well Mama and Baba came with her, although we are now sure she is actually using them in context. We thought the first word would be Mow (cat) or more. Nope - right out of the blue it is Baby (Baby signing times + a new baby doll)
Actions and affection - When we met JJ she wanted nothing to do with stuffed animals/dolls/etc. She was all about legos. Then she got "the teddy bear". She loves that bear and has generalized to other animals and dolls now as well. When we say LOVE THE BEAR she will pick it up and give it a BIG hug.
Aunt Roe and Baba taught her to use a riding toy this weekend.
She signs with the opening of Baby Signing Times (not sure she gets the meaning yet)
Getting VERY good about being "gentle" with the cats and touching with just one finger. YEA.
AND (big one) she will now hold Mama's or Baba's hand and walk with us. This is new.
In fact she is picking up new skills and behaviors so fast I am not sure if she had just regressed and is now coming back up to speed or if she is actually learning all this stuff (or probably both).
